PERSULFATE ACTIVATORS

There are four primary methods used to activate Klozur persulfate.

  1. Heat
  2. High pH
  3. Hydrogen Peroxide
  4. Metal Chelates
These activation chemistries are used to convert the persulfate anion into the highly reactive sulfate radical, a very strong oxidant capable of destroying a wide range of contaminants. The choice of activator will be dependent upon the target contaminants, site lithology, hydrogeology, and other site conditions.

When you contact ChemRem about your project, we will help you choose the right activator chemisitry for your project so that your site remediation is successful.  We also sell a few of the activators to offer you a turn key service.  Below are three activators that we represent:

Klozur® Caustic

Klozur® Caustic is an environmental grade product which offers a high pH activation with a 25% NaOH solution.  Click for Klozure Caustic MSDS

Dissolvine™ iron EDTA

Dissolvine is an environmental grade chelated iron product for activating Klozur® persulfate across a range of pH conditions.  Click for Dissolvine MSDS .

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide can be used as an activator for Klozur® persulfate. The hydrogen peroxide is decomposed to produce hydroxl radicals and heat and these reaction by-products activate the persulate anion. As an activator it is applied in conjunction with Klozur persulfate in a ratio of 1 mole hydrogen peroxide to 1 mole persulfate up to 10 moles hydrogen peroxide to 1 mole persulfate.  Click for Hydrogen Peroxide MSDS .
